Scooters at a red light

Indians seem to prefer roundabouts over signal lights. But whenever our bus waited at a relatively rare traffic light, scooters and motorcycles would filter through the larger vehicles behind us. That produced the scene here, with dozens of impatient riders creeping into the intersection.

Most intersections had no control at all. Our driver, Mukesh, would slowly roll the bus right out into a busy cross street. With nothing but politeness, other drivers would slow down, move around us, and quickly let us continue. The process was most impressive when we made a u-turn!
